Iron Deficiency: Chronic Kidney Disease
In the second episode of the EHA Diagnosing And Treating Iron Deficiency podcast series, host Prof Gunnar Birgegård and guest expert Prof Christopher Winearls highlight the high prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in patients with CKD, together with its association with poor long-term outcomes. They discuss the importance of monitoring iron on top of monitoring erythropoietin and treating the deficiency prior to the use of erythropoietin. Overall, Prof Winearls discloses how to evaluate ferritin and Hb levels in CKD patients and how to treat iron deficiency and monitor outcomes in this special population.
